Sarah Alvarez joined SCPDA in 2019. Sarah earned a B.A. and B.S. at the University of Central Florida and her J.D. and the University of Oregon. During law school, Sarah worked as a legal intern for the Civil Liberties Defense Center in Eugene, Oregon and the Southern Oregon Public Defenders. She serves as the board treasurer for the Civil Liberties Defense Center.
“I am a public defender because the criminal system is unjust at almost every level and must become non punitive, rehabilitative, and empowering. We have to dismantle the systems that are at the root of social inequality, and I believe public defense work is part of that. I love my job.”
