WE ARE DEFENDERS

Brave Advocacy, No Judgment, and Fierce Connections. These are the core tenets of Snohomish County Public Defender Association (SCPDA)’s mission to provide the highest quality legal representation to people facing loss of liberty pursuant to criminal and civil laws while working to become an Antiracist organization. As Defenders we uphold this mission and exhibit these tenets through client-centered advocacy and collaboration with community stakeholders.

Located in Everett just north of Seattle, SCPDA is a private, non-profit law office, incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington.  SCPDA is primarily funded from indigent defense contracts with Snohomish County, Skagit County, Tulalip Cares, and other counties and municipalities and the State of Washington. The goal of the Association is to provide the highest quality of legal representation to all its clients.

A Message from the Director

SCPDA celebrates 50 years in September 2023. This golden anniversary is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and hope for the future. SCPDA is dedicated to its mission to provide the highest quality of representation and our mission can only be fulfilled by putting racial equity at the center of every aspect of our work. Racial equity lifts up everyone while paying close attention to those often disadvantaged, excluded, and more harshly punished. From slavery to mass incarceration, injustices plague court systems.

At SCPDA, defenders bring their creativity and growth mindsets to contribute to the defense of clients facing loss of liberty. We envision a defender community where all defenders are engaged in centering intersectionality as well as sustaining anti-racist practices and values in ourselves, our organization, the systems in which we operate, our community partners, and the community at large.
